Living Gems

To promise or not

Living Gems residents share their New Year’s resolutions

Each year, resolutions are set on or before 31 December by millions of people worldwide, yet by the morning many are already rethinking them. So, how do we achieve our personal goals in 2023?

Travel: As much as you can, as far as you can, as long as you can. Life is not meant to be lived in just one place. It’s not about the destination, it’s about the journey! Not I – nor anyone else, can travel that road for you, you must travel it for yourself.
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than the ones you did do, so throw away the doubts, sail away from your safe harbour, catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore, dream, discover.

Where to: Our club house!!!! Europe in winter with snow falling. I will be in Antarctica on New Year’s Day 2023, then Buenos Aires, Thailand (Bangkok), so that is close enough to start the year off. Then there is the Philippines for a couple of months. Maybe a tour of India or Europe later in the year. How do you fit a lifetime’s worth of travel in our short lives? Live, love, laugh and travel.

2023 is going to be a year where I make a point of spending more time doing what I’d love to do. I’d like to travel to New Zealand for a holiday; develop friendships and hopefully do some travelling in various areas of Australia. I want to become more active in the community and create my happy place.

My quote for 2023. Make every single day count. It’s as simple as that!

My New Year’s resolution this year is to enjoy myself, have fun and appreciate the wonderful life we have at Living Gems.

I have been ten-pin bowling at Mount Warren Park since 1986. I started going to the Learn to Bowl when it first opened, as a mum of three children.
I never thought I would still be there 36 years later, and I hope to still be going in my 80s so that is my New Year’s resolution. Keep doing what you love.

My New Year’s resolution would be to continue to make new friends, learn some new crafts and activities by using the clubhouse facilities and enjoying the friendship of other residents.
Being active in our village will assist in establishing new friends and attending sessions in the craft room will see you creating new craft items and enjoying the company of others

If I have a New Year’s resolution recommendation to share at all, it would be to communicate. Talk to your spouse, talk to your family, talk to your friends and neighbours. So many misunderstandings can be avoided in life if people just took the time to talk to one another.
My other resolution is to not give up chocolate. I started that resolution years ago and it’s been very easy to stick to!

To keep as active as possible while enjoying the lifestyle of Living Gems.
To travel within Australia, starting with the Tamworth County Music Festival in January.
To spend next Christmas with our son and his family in Munich, Germany.
And what everyone resolves to do – enjoy the company of family and friends.
