Massive garage a highlight of new Living Gems home

Travellers’ delight

Perennial travellers Steve and Sandy Trevor couldn’t believe their eyes when they moved into their brand-new home at Amber at Living Gems a few weeks ago and saw the size of their purpose-built RV garage for the first time.

“It was absolutely massive, and our grown kids likened it to an airline hangar,” said Steve, who not only parked their 22-foot caravan inside the 10.5 metre garage but also a 200 series LandCruiser and a Mazda 2.

“And there was still more room up the back for storage,” he said.

Backing the caravan into the garage for the first time was a little daunting, according to Steve, who was concerned they needed more space to manoeuvre, but with Sandy at the wheel and Steve giving directions, the experienced travellers succeeded first go.

“I don’t know what I was worried about,” he laughed.

Steve and Sandy, who have been married for 43 years, have 28 years of caravanning behind them. They’ve owned their current van for eight years and had several others prior to that in which to take their three children, who have children of their own now, on frequent holidays throughout Queensland and New South Wales.

Their move into the Amber by Living Gems over-50s lifestyle resort was made so the newly retired couple could step up their adventures and see more of Australia.

“We can now lock up our home securely and do longer trips more often. WA is one of the places we really want to see because it has so many beautiful locations such as the wine district of Margaret River, sandy beaches along its enormous coastline and so much more, but that’s just the start,” said Steve.

After just two weeks in their new home at Amber, the couple were already heading off for a five-week holiday to Mt Isa, across to Townsville and then home again.

“Our July settlement was ahead of schedule because we weren’t expecting to move in until August/September, but it has worked out well, allowing us to set up our new home, ready for when we return,” said Steve.

The vivacious adventurers, who love the relaxed carefree life of travelling Australia, say they are also looking forward to their new lifestyle at Amber, especially once the new Country Club is completed.

“We’re keen to play ten-pin and lawn bowls, as well as doing aerobics, fitness training, swimming, and socialising with other residents. We love to mingle and have a good chat,” said Steve who has plans to join the resident pool competition on his return from Mount Isa.

He said everything you would ever want to do is either at the resort or within walking distance including shops, and beautiful strolls along the Logan River.

“We’ve only been at Amber for two weeks and have already been to three happy hours at the resort’s temporary clubhouse. We are very happy and know we made a really good decision to come here. Even our kids can’t believe how great it is.”
