Local charities are always looking for donations of quality goods, and you can make an impact by giving your unwanted items to those in need. We have a handy round-up of great charities to help you with a downsizing declutter.

 

Defenders for Hope

Located close to Amber by Living Gems and Opal by Living Gems, Defenders for Hope helps victims and survivors of domestic violence with finding the right local programs to assist in rebuilding their lives. The group is dedicated to bringing awareness and assistance programs to the local community. Their op shop is at 6/10 Industrial Avenue, Logan Village, with a furniture store and food bank operating in Jimboomba.

RizeUp Australia

RizeUp Australia is a Queensland-based organisation that helps women and families move on after the devastation of domestic violence. Their mission is to deliver life-changing and practical support to families when they need it most. You can donate furniture, household goods, and electrical appliances which they use to furnish houses for affected families.

Animal Welfare League Queensland (AWLQ)

The AWLQ is a not-for-profit charity which focuses on the care and rehoming of abandoned, stray, and surrendered animals in South East Queensland while providing affordable veterinary care through their Community Vet Clinics.

They accept good quality clothing, furniture, bric-a-brac, and homewares. Goods can be dropped off at the Tweed Heads store from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday. Or post donations for free by downloading an Australia Post shipping label and dropping it off at your local post office or Australia Post Box. Organise a free collection by calling 13 72 58.

 

Vinnies Toowoomba

Vinnies provides a wide range of services including crisis accommodation, case management, Centrelink assistance, housing, help with immigration issues, education and recreational activities, health programs, counselling, and art therapy.

Vinnies accepts quality second-hand donated goods including men’s, women’s and children’s clothing, shoes, accessories, bric-a-brac, manchester, toys, books, media, and lots more. Open seven days a week, you can drop off your items at 689-691 Ruthven Street, Toowoomba, or give them a call on 07 4632 9960 if you have any questions.

Salvation Army Maleny

Support the work of the Salvos by donating to The Salvation Army Maleny Family Store in the Riverside Centre in Maple Street. The store sells a wide variety of goods from furniture, clothing and bric-a-brac and welcomes donations in good condition. The Salvation Army is one of the oldest charities running in Australia, starting its first outreach service in Melbourne in 1883.
