Fancy breakfast by the river, lunch overlooking the ocean and a weekend exploring the rainforest? When you live in Rockhampton, you can enjoy all three without travelling far.

There’s plenty to love about calling Central Queensland home. Beautiful beaches, tropical islands, country towns and wide-open spaces are all within easy reach.

And when you’re living at Living Gems Rockhampton, in Parkhurst, you’ve got a beautiful home base to return to after every adventure.

Whether you fancy a few hours out, a day on the coast or a weekend away with the caravan, here’s a taste of what’s waiting on your doorstep.

Start by exploring your own backyard

You don’t have to leave Rockhampton to find something special.

Head into the city and enjoy a leisurely stroll along the Fitzroy River, where historic buildings, public art and waterfront cafés make a lovely backdrop for your morning coffee.

If you’re in the mood for a little culture, the Rockhampton Museum of Art is well worth exploring. Or spend a peaceful afternoon wandering through the beautiful Botanic Gardens and visiting the neighbouring Rockhampton Zoo.

For a change of scenery, head up Mount Archer, also known as Nurim. The elevated boardwalk offers sweeping views across Rockhampton and the surrounding landscape. It’s especially beautiful when the afternoon light begins to soften.

And the best part? You can do all of this and still be home in time for dinner.

Everything you need, close to home

Of course, it’s not all about days out and weekend adventures. Living Gems Rockhampton is ideally positioned for everyday convenience, too. Parkhurst Tavern is a great spot for a relaxed lunch or dinner with friends, while nearby shopping centres offer supermarkets, a chemist, gift shops and handy services, including accountants. And when cooking isn’t on the agenda, there’s no shortage of restaurants and takeaway options to choose from. Whether you’re picking up the groceries, running a few errands or catching up over a meal, the everyday essentials are all within easy reach.

Beach days are always a good idea

Sometimes, all you need is a sea breeze and a change of scenery.

The coastal town of Yeppoon is around 40 minutes from Rockhampton, making it an easy choice for a spontaneous day out.

Start with coffee along the foreshore, enjoy a swim at Yeppoon Lagoon or settle in for a long lunch overlooking the water.

If you’ve got the afternoon free, continue along the Capricorn Coast to Emu Park, where you’ll find beautiful coastal views and the famous Singing Ship memorial.

Bring the grandkids, invite friends or simply enjoy a quiet day together. With so many lovely spots to stop, there’s no need to rush.

An island escape without the long journey

Here’s something that might surprise you.

Living in Rockhampton puts the Southern Great Barrier Reef within reach for an ordinary day trip.

Drive to Rosslyn Bay, catch the ferry to Great Keppel Island and suddenly you’re surrounded by white sand, sparkling water and beautiful island scenery.

Enjoy a swim, explore a walking trail or find yourself a comfortable spot overlooking the ocean.

It’s the kind of experience many people save for their annual holiday.

When you live nearby, it can be something to look forward to whenever the weather and ferry schedule suit.

Caves, country towns and hidden gems

Prefer exploring somewhere a little different?

The spectacular Capricorn Caves, north of Rockhampton, offer guided tours through ancient limestone formations. It’s a fascinating outing, especially when friends or family come to visit.

Or head to the historic town of Mount Morgan, where heritage buildings and gold-mining history offer a glimpse into the region’s past.

These are the sorts of places that make you appreciate just how much variety Central Queensland has to offer.

One day you’re exploring caves. The next, you’re enjoying lunch in a country town.

Pack the caravan and head for the rainforest

For a weekend away, Byfield is a wonderful option.

Beyond Yeppoon, the landscape changes from coastal scenery to rainforest, freshwater creeks and peaceful bushland.

Explore the village, discover local arts and crafts, enjoy a picnic or simply settle in and listen to the birds.

There are camping options in the surrounding area, including locations suitable for particular caravans and camping setups. Check access conditions and park permits before heading off, as some tracks and beach destinations require a four-wheel drive.

If you’re looking for a slightly longer coastal escape, why not make a weekend of Yeppoon and Emu Park instead?

With beaches, cafés and relaxed coastal accommodation, sometimes the best holiday is the one that doesn’t require a complicated itinerary.

The freedom to come and go

One of the lovely things about downsizing to a modern, low-maintenance villa is having more freedom to enjoy the places around you.

At Living Gems Rockhampton, you can enjoy beautifully designed homes, premium inclusions and an exciting resort lifestyle, while making the most of everything the wider region has to offer.

Take a day trip with friends. Pack the car or caravan for a weekend away. Or enjoy a quiet afternoon at home after a busy morning exploring.

Because when you love where you live, every day offers something to look forward to.
