There are plenty of games to suit all ages and skill levels. Kids in the kitchen What could be more fun than creating a scrumptious savoury snack or a decadent sweet treat? Spending time together in the kitchen teaches children valuable life skills with a very tasty result. The type of cooking...

At Living Gems Caboolture Riverfront, the Sparkling Gems Red Hatters, which are part of a worldwide organisation for women wanting to enjoy each other’s company through socialising, recently enjoyed their first outing which included a train trip to Geebung, a spot of op shopping followed by coffee, cake and then a lunch at Geebung RSL Club. Members, who hail from Living Gems Caboolture Riverfront, were also entertained by two Red Hatters who showed what they have learned at their square-dancing lessons in the resort’s Country Club. A fabulous day out for all involved. Resort Round-up

Welcome to another edition of our Resort Round-up. There is never a dull moment at our Living Gems communities, with so many activities and fun things to do happening all the time. Last month saw about 80 Amber residents indulge in a full day of cruising aboard the old lady of the sea 'Lady Brisbane’. The cruise left from Brisbane Central and leisurely made its way down the Brisbane River before encircling the 300 islands within Moreton Bay and heading towards Southport on the Gold Coast. The skipper gave everyone a running commentary and enlightened them to the history of each island. Who knew there was so much history at our doorstep! As luck would have it, they found themselves alongside two naval vessels. They were Japanese helicopter carriers taking part in the joint Talisman Sabre exercises in Queensland. Morning tea was followed by a great barbecue. Hats off to the staff for a great lunch. The completion of Amber’s new wash bay is expected...

Making light work of travel

Travel tips and gadgets guide The dream of carefree travel shouldn’t become a nightmare of heavy suitcases and lost luggage. We take a look at some great ideas to lighten your load so you can say ‘yes’ to more adventure and less packing.   Start with a plan Few things set your holiday off onto a bad start than the last-minute panic of tossing things into a suitcase before a trip. Start by making a note of the expected weather at your destination. Taking a couple of lighter layering items may be worth more than packing one heavy jacket. Write down your travel wardrobe to see what you have that can do double duty. A shirt, for instance, can be buttoned up to wear with jeans or worn open over a t-shirt. It’s a match! Mixing and matching offers you the ultimate versatility. Choose a neutral colour palette as your base – for example, black, navy, grey or tan and choose enough tops and bottoms to coordinate with...
Welcoming your pets to Living Gems
Living Gems

Pet-friendly community

Welcoming your pets to Living Gems Pets bring us so much joy and companionship, so when you’re ready to downsize you need to be sure that your furry and feathered friends are welcome as well. In this pet guide, we’ll look at all the factors you need to consider when choosing between a retirement village or an over-50s lifestyle resort. Not all Australian retirement villages welcome pets. In fact, according to a 2018 Animal Welfare League survey, only 18 percent of residential aged care facilities allowed pets – this is even though 64 percent of Australian households have pets. Many older retirement villages weren’t built with pets in mind and don’t have private yards or off-leash walking areas. And for many years, these villages enforced a blanket ban on all pets. However, lifestyle resorts that are created for active over 50s, such as Living Gems, welcome pets. Our resorts are designed to be pet friendly, with plenty of leashed walking areas and many also offering enclosed...
