Never a dull moment at Living Gems Toowoomba Resort

With a jam packed social calendar and activities program residents at Living Gems Toowoomba Lifestyle Resort are living life to the full.

One of Living Gems Toowoomba’s original residents, Bronwyn Newman says since moving into her home at the Resort two years ago with her dachshund, Milo she has been enjoying all the social activities on offer.

“With so many things to get involved in I am busier than ever in my retirement!”

It’s been a full year on the Resort’s social calendar with many successful events run by the residents including Australia Day and Easter celebrations, a Mother’s Day lunch, fashion parades, fundraising sausage sizzles, weekly happy hour and bingo.

There are also plenty of ongoing activities for this active community to get involved in including weekly craft sessions, tennis, line dancing, lawn bowls and aqua aerobics.

Most recently the Resort held a Melbourne Cup luncheon for over 70 residents in their award-winning Country Club. There was a delicious lunch followed by a male and female ‘fashions on the field’ parade, wooden horse games, race sweeps and plenty of fun.

To cap off a busy year, residents will enjoy the ever popular Dusty and the Divas, Dusty Springfield tribute show hosted by Living Gems in early December, and the Resort Christmas Party later in the month.

Instrumental in co-ordinating the social calendar Mrs Newman says that the events are also a good way to welcome new residents into the Resort.

“It is such a wonderful community here and it’s important everyone feels included and connected.”

Christmas spirit alive and well at Opal by Living Gems

From Christmas light competitions to festive lunches, there is something on every week in December for residents to enjoy at Opal by Living Gems – proving that the Christmas spirit is alive and well!

Sales  Manager, Dennis Ring said that the Resort is well known for its festive atmosphere at this time of year.

“Our Resort really does come alive during December and our home owners love getting involved to share in the Christmas spirit,” said Dennis.

Each year Opal by Living Gems sends out a challenge to its residents to decorate their homes for Christmas with lights and Christmas cheer.

This year, the homes were officially judged by Logan City Councillor, Laurie Koranski and State Member for Logan, Linus Power MP on Saturday 15 December, followed by Christmas Carols with Mt Warren Park Community Church choir and a delicious BBQ dinner.

Another favourite on the Resort’s festive calendar is the annual Men’s Club Christmas luncheon held in early December where the men surprise their wives and partners with an amazing lunch held at the outdoor entertainment pavilion that overlooks the beautiful Opal Parklands and lakes.

Mr Ring says the active Home Owners Committee hold a Christmas dinner each year which, is always a popular event.

“Over 175 residents attended this year and enjoyed a lovely spit roast dinner and sang and danced the night away to the musical delights of local entertainers Toucan Twango”.

Dedicating to finishing the year off with a bang, the Resort will host a New Year’s Eve Masquerade Party at the Opal Clubhouse. Residents will hide behind their masks, bringing in 2019 with plenty of bubbly and entertainment from Absolute Suave Dance Band.
